One of the ethical themes is the treatment of vulnerable people. Social work, nursing, and even the military all interact with people on a daily basis who have some sort of an expectation or dependence on their leadership and behavior. The workers in these fields make decisions that directly affect or influence the lives of other people. This is a huge responsibility that must be taken seriously. In the profession of social work, the counselor tries to listen and help the client who may talk of very delicate issues. It all comes down to the respecting the patients requests. They are completely vulnerable to the decisions you make and actions taken. The patient is receiving medical treatment because she expects to be healthier in the end, however many treatments and medicines have side effects that make it impossible to do entirely good. Too much Tylenol causes liver damage, chemotherapy kills good cells along with the cancerous ones. The decision to treat is made when the expected outcome is better than the possible bad effects. The concept of vulnerability and how these people are treated by the social worker or nurse are similar and different in some aspects. Both have to deal with patient confidentiality, trust, and helping to solve or help something that has gone wrong. However, social workers deal with mental, psychological, and emotional disorders while nurses deal with the physical body. Another theme that arises in more than one context is social justice. There is some sort of development of an identifiable asset that can be used in the future by the company. For example, designing of a new product by the company is a development cost. And the cost that the company incurs to get knowledge about the competi tor in the market is a research cost. In the given case study, we see that the company is incurring cost to bring into existence a new product i.e. a computer that will solve its many issues. It will help in summarising of the work that was previously done manually. Hence, it is a new product that the company is developing and is spending $100000 for the creation of the project. It will be treated as development cost (Demski, 2017) b)In the given case study, as mentioned in the above answer, the cost that the company will bear for the creation of the new computer, will be development cost. A new product is coming into existence; hence it cannot be treated as operating expenses. The company needs to capitalise the said cost with the total cost of the new asset. The total monies spent by the company for the new computer should be added to the total cost of the computer and then it should be amortised down the years (Smith, 2017). This is the standard procedure that the company must follow while accounting for development costs. Research costs must be treated as operating expenses and must be shown in the income statement of the company. In case of the research expenditure there is a lot of uncertainty involved in the total revenue that the company might gain from the research activities undertaken by it. In case of development expenditure the company can ascertain the revenue that the new asset being developed wi ll fetch, thus it is easier to capitalise that cost. In the same way in case of the given company, it was easier to ascertain the revenue that the new computer will fetch to the company. Thus those costs must be capitalised and added to the total cost of the asset. The same must be amortised during the useful year of the asset live. The total cost of goods sold will be the total cost of production of the CDs plus the development costs that the company incurred. In case the UNE is considering to purchase the rights of the development of the software from the company. Then in that case also the development cost will be added to the total cost of the software rights, because the company needs to capitalise the same in every which way possible. This is the method by which the company will calculate the total cost of the goods sold to the university. The university will charge no money from the students and will give them the CDs as freebies (Russell, 2017). b) There are two cases that are mentioned hereunder. The first case in which the company is selling the software in 25CDs to the UNE, and the other one in which the company is selling the right to use the software to the University. In the first case, there is a sale of service and in the second case there is sale of the use of technical knowhow by the company. The same shall be regarded as in the books of account in the same manner. The sale of CDs will be recorded as sale of services under the income statement, and the sale of rights of the software will be recorded as sale of technical know (Elnasri Fox, 2017).Both the revenues are taxable as per the specified laws under the relevant acts of taxation. The revenue recognition criteria need to be followed while recording such revenues for tangible and intangible assets. The Universe Essays (1255 words) - Physical Cosmology, Big Bang The Universe It is always a mystery about how the universe began, whether if and when it will end. Astronomers construct hypotheses called cosmological models that try to find the answer. There are two types of models: Big Bang and Steady State. However, through many observational evidences, the Big Bang theory can best explain the creation of the universe. The Big Bang model postulates that about 15 to 20 billion years ago, the universe violently exploded into being, in an event called the Big Bang. Before the Big Bang, all of the matter and radiation of our present universe were packed together in the primeval fireballan extremely hot dense state from which the universe rapidly expanded.1 The Big Bang was the start of time and space. The matter and radiation of that early stage rapidly expanded and cooled. Several million years later, it condensed into galaxies. The universe has continued to expand, and the galaxies have continued moving away from each other ever since. Today the universe is still expanding, as astronomers have observed. The Steady State model says that the universe does not evolve or change in time. There was no beginning in the past, nor will there be change in the future. This model assumes the perfect cosmological principle. This principle says that the universe is the same everywhere on the large scale, at all times.2 It maintains the same average density of matter forever. There are observational evidences found that can prove the Big Bang model is more reasonable than the Steady State model. First, the redshifts of distant galaxies. Redshift is a Doppler effect which states that if a galaxy is moving away, the spectral line of that galaxy observed will have a shift to the red end. The faster the galaxy moves, the more shift it has. If the galaxy is moving closer, the spectral line will show a blue shift. If the galaxy is not moving, there is no shift at all. However, as astronomers observed, the more distance a galaxy is located from Earth, the more redshift it shows on the spectrum. This means the further a galaxy is, the faster it moves. Therefore, the universe is expanding, and the Big Bang model seems more reasonable than the Steady State model. The second observational evidence is the radiation produced by the Big Bang. The Big Bang model predicts that the universe should still be filled with a small remnant of radiation left over from the original violent explosion of the primeval fireball in the past. The primeval fireball would have sent strong shortwave radiation in all directions into space. In time, that radiation would spread out, cool, and fill the expanding universe uniformly. By now it would strike Earth as microwave radiation. In 1965 physicists Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson detected microwave radiation coming equally from all directions in the sky, day and night, all year.3 And so it appears that astronomers have detected the fireball radiation that was produced by the Big Bang. This casts serious doubt on the Steady State model. The Steady State could not explain the existence of this radiation, so the model cannot best explain the beginning of the universe. Since the Big Bang model is the better model, the existence and the future of the universe can also be explained. Around 15 to 20 billion years ago, time began. The points that were to become the universe exploded in the primeval fireball called the Big Bang. The exact nature of this explosion may never be known. However, recent theoretical breakthroughs, based on the principles of quantum theory, have suggested that space, and the matter within it, masks an infinitesimal realm of utter chaos, where events happen randomly, in a state called quantum weirdness.4 Before the universe began, this chaos was all there was. At some time, a portion of this randomness happened to form a bubble, with a temperature in excess of 10 to the power of 34 degrees Kelvin. Being that hot, naturally it expanded. For an extremely brief and short period, billionths of billionths of a second, it inflated. At the end of the period of inflation, the universe may have a diameter of a few centimetres. As the ability to conduct profitable foreign trade increased, so did the amount of cash. Thus, the new definition of wealth came to mean the gain of cash or specie. Specie included gold, silver, or bullion. The wealthiest nation became the one with the most cash, and therefore, the most powerful nation. As the redefining of wealth took hold, there was an increased desire and ability to conduct foreign trade on a larger scale as cash became the new medium of exchange in contrast to bartering. Mercantilism began to take hold of the countries of Europe. Mercantilism was characterized by the governmental regulation of industries, trade, and commerce. This was especially true with foreign trade, and was determined more b y national aims rather than individual or local interests. This new quest for trade began the Age of Expansion in the early fourteen hundreds. This era ushered in a search for new sources of revenues, and focus turned toward the colonization of the New World. The Portuguese, Spanish, and English directed many efforts of colonization and development toward this new land in an attempt to establish themselves as the economic leaders of the world. As mercantilism began to change, so did the power flux of the European countries. Thus began the shaping of North America as we know it. The Age of Expansion brought many changes to medieval Europe. During this period, the countries of Europe began to look beyond their borders. In Europe, there was nowhere to grow. This being the case, the only place to turn was west. Portugal came into existence in the early 1400's. It is a small country bordered on one side by the sea, and by Spain on the other. Out of necessity the Portuguese became the masters of the sea. They began to acquire a great knowledge of the sea and advanced in navigation, sailing, and map-making. They also founded an academy of navigation in Lisbon. In the early 1400's, the Portuguese began exploratory voyages. The Portuguese wanted to establish themselves in large-scale international trade. The four things most desired by the people of Europe were spices, sugar, precious metals, and silk.
